For author James Ciccone ’77, there’s nothing more American than tales of the Old West.
“The Western stands at the threshold of what it means to be an American,” says Ciccone, whose latest novel, The Horse, was the 2024 recipient of the International Firebird Book Award. The dark, fictional thriller set in the horse-racing world of 1860s Saratoga, N.Y., is Ciccone’s fourth release since 2020, when he began his career as a novelist after more than two decades practicing law.
